Elesco Herringbone Flooring for a Curved Landing in Boughton
We recently returned to this residential project in Boughton, Northamptonshire, to continue the Elesco herringbone flooring we previously installed throughout the property, this time taking the timber flooring up onto the first floor landing.
Following the original installation, the client wanted the same herringbone floor carried through upstairs, creating a consistent finish between the different levels of the home.
Preparing the landing for herringbone flooring
Good preparation was particularly important on this section of the project.
Before laying the herringbone, our team fitted 6mm plywood across the subfloor, then feathered the floor into the adjoining doorways to create a smooth, level surface ready for installation.
The Elesco herringbone flooring was then fully bonded using adhesive.
Precision fitting around a curved landing
The main challenge was the large curved section of the landing.
Rather than using trims around the perimeter, each section of flooring was carefully cut and fitted to follow the curve itself. This gives the edge a much cleaner finish and lets the herringbone pattern remain the focus.
The flooring was also finished neatly into the top step of the staircase, connecting the landing with the stairwell and completing the installation.
It is a smaller area than the original ground floor project, but one where accurate preparation, setting out and finishing make a big difference to the final result.
